The purpose of a Senior Center is to help keep our seniors over the age of 60 both mentally and physically active. To provide programs and activities that are accessible daily. I believe that staying active is the key to staying healthy. Having senior centers available allows our clients the opportunity to stay active, and it keeps them independent so they realize they do not have to stay at home alone. We also provide a Meals on Wheels program which provides home delivered meals at no cost, however with the budget cuts etc. we are struggling to keep them going.
Activities may vary from center to center I have listed some here:
Computer classes; Health Screenings; Field trips; Games every day such as bingo, cards dominos; Exercise- low impact along with Peppi classes in some centers to help with balance and fall prevention ; Congregate meals; Dancing; Socialization is so important. It actually takes place while doing all the above but; also at parties, meals, sitting in conversation along with special events and holiday celebrations. We have such a passion for the seniors which is so important in keeping the atmosphere upbeat. With the baby boomers turning 60+ and 65+ I can see that happening more and more!
Congregate meals are meals that are offered to the seniors. All seniors 60 years of age or older, regardless of income are eligible to participate and receive a meal in any of our dining rooms. There is not a charge but all donations are appreciated.
So if you are 60 years of age or know someone who you would like to see them have some social interaction, stimulation, or just a chance to make friends and socialize then what are you waiting for!? Come visit one of our Senior Centers!!
